Local Governments

Since the Firm was founded in 1953, the Firm’s goal has been to serve as the primary local government auditors and consultants across the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Although the Firm has grown into other business sectors over the years, the Firm retains the same vision of commitment to public service as it did when it was founded by Daniel A. Robinson, Sr.

Over the years, RFC has met with the Auditor of Public Accounts of the Commonwealth of Virginia (APA) providing expert recommendations and valuable field experience to the annual Audit Specifications for Counties, Cities, and Towns as well as the Audit Specifications for Authorities, Boards, and Commissions, as issued by the APA.

Members of the Firm are well known throughout Virginia as local government experts.  During engagements, members work on-site with our staff passing down decades of knowledge.

The Firm services local government clients in numerous facets such as counties, cities, towns, school boards, social services agencies, water/sewer authorities, sanitation authorities, industrial/economic development authorities, airports, jails/detention entities, community service boards, and others.

As of the APA’s reporting in November 2020, RFC was providing auditing services to 100 of 171 (58%) localities.  These figures do not include authorities, boards, and commissions or many small towns that are not required to report to the APA.  RFC works with a substantial number of this clientele as well. We believe our extensive client base and decades of experience demonstrate our expertise in Virginia local government accounting.
